My shot at the big time!
By Becky Lyn Rickman, Staff Writer
Being a movie extra was so much fun, but exhausting!
That guy up there . . . the one with the mustache . . . yea, that's Ron Howard, baby! One of the all-time greats in Hollywood. That little imp he's playing with is Bryce Dallas Howard. You may know her from The Village or The Lady in the Water.
This is from the set of the movie, Gung Ho! With Michael Keaton, Mimi Rodgers, George Wendt and a few others.
I was living in Pittsburgh at the time and a call came out to members of our church that they would donate something like $15.00 per extra for a days work. It wound up being a 15-hour day and we were shuttled to 4 different scenes in the movie, but what a blast! I got my picture taken with George Wendt and told him how much I loved his work on Cheers, to which he replied with a chilly, "Yea, that's nice." Sorry, Mr. Wendt, you might have been tired, but you should be a little nicer to your fans!
Anyway, I was in the airport scene, the union hall scene, the festival in the park scene, and one other, but I can't remember. The only place you actually see me, however, is in the beloved "you win the game in the fourth quarter" scene in the union hall. All you really see is my back side. But I'm there.

Here's the clip: I'm at 25:37, so you have to really fast-forward a bit. I'm walking with my short hair and my flannel tied around my waist, in the red cut-off sweatshirt.
It was a day I'll never forget and my one shot at the big time! Oddly enough, I never got a call from any agents. Imagine that!
