13 Signs we might need a harry potter intervention!
By Becky Lyn Rickman, Managing Editor
"Hi. My name is Becky Lyn. I have an addiction." . . . "Hi, Becky Lyn. Thank you for sharing."
We read the Harry Potter series to our children, but sometimes use them as an excuse to read and re-read them for our own pleasure. Sometimes, we (I) go too far! Here are the top 10 signs we've gotten just a little too obsessed with the books:
- When we are carrying in groceries with our arms are full, we stretch out your fingers and shout, “Alohomora!” and fully expect the door to fly open.
- When our kids finally wear us down and we decide it’s time to get a family pet, we check our budget to see if there’s room in it to feed a hippogriff.
- When the line is too long at the post office, we go outside and begin to shout for Hedwig.
- When we’re reading the newspaper, we can’t figure out why the people in the photos aren’t acting out their story.
- When our children won’t respond to our repeated requests to get out of bed, we begin digging about in the garden and look for mandrake root to “un-petrify” them.
- We assign our children’s rooms house names and decorate them in house colors.
- It’s time to grow a herb garden, but we can’t find the particular herbs we need in any normal seed catalog.
- When our children turn 12, we wait breathlessly, hoping for a special invitation to Hogwarts to arrive.
- Without shame, but hidden from the world, there is a finely carved wand deep within our underwear drawer . . . just in case.
- No one can find the chopsticks for Chinese food night because they are the makeshift wands in our underwear drawer.
- We may or may not have attempted to make polyjuice potion, using suitable kitchen substitutes, for our husband just in case he acts up and we need him to be someone else.
- We take pictures of warthog statues to hang in our "common room" so we can pretend we are actually at Hogwarts.
- Even before our children are born, they have heard all seven books.
